simmons was first,,kiss came out way before dio did in the late seventies...while dio's explanation makes sense..gene was the 1st to do it at the kiss shows and in pics...look it up..like kiss or not,,they did a lot of things before other bands,,we tend to put kiss down for whatever reason(s)..but they did influence millions .

@camarotoro Gene's was Spiderman-inspired because it includes the thumb and we all know how much he loves comics.
Dio's devil horns however are actually based on the gesture his italian grandmother did to keep evil spirits away: the satanic devil's horn.

in fact it was gene simmons who made this gesture popular in hard rock first-kiss and gene simmons came out in 1973 and at least 3-4 years before dio was even around, gene simmons used this sign to salute the live crowds-like him or not -gene simmons is right because he did come out way before dio, maybe some of you younger people may not remember, but gene simmons was the 1st in rock to use this sign..

First, the vid begins with War Pigs. That song was Ozzy-era/Original Sabbath. Ozzy made the "peace"sign, but in England those two fingers can also mean "Fuck You" and by extension, "Fuck you, I can still kill you with a bow and arrow."
You have to get to Ronnie James Dio-era Sabbath before you even consider the "horns". Then you have to realize what it really means to the Italians, of which Dio is descended.
Also, you have to laugh Jack T. Chick out of the room.

its the INTENT of the operator, get your heads out of your asses and do some real exploration of Magic and its meanings, Ronny James Dio started the whole Horns thing in Rock/metal music its about defelecting Evil ! NOT Promoting satanism His Grand mother taught it to him.

Many of those arn't satanic. The only satanic one is the two fingers up pinching the thumb on to the middle fingers. The one with the thumb out actually means love in sign language.
