A quick example of how I did the fractals for my typographical playing cards. A single letter, repeated nearly infinitely towards a center point, each copy is effected by the rotational movement of the object it was spawned from. This results in an exponential spinning motion that generates a myriad of interesting patterns, each unique to the letter, scaling rate, and anchor point selected.

Layman's terms: The smaller copies spin faster, making a spiral pattern.

The music is from the Armored Core 2 soundtrack, track 10, "Roundabout".
