I Know You Haven't Got Soul

The idea of an immaterial soul, or spirit, is one that appeals to many people, either for religious reasons or otherwise.

The two largest religions in the world, Christianity and Islam, have a critical dependence on the idea that we all possess some part of our very essence that is immaterial and immortal. It is this part, our soul, which is judged by God; that part which will suffer for our sins; that part which is capable of salvation; that part which can go on to heaven; that part, they claim, that allows us to be moral and exhibit free will. So this is no minor issue: If the idea of the soul falls then the major faiths mentioned here are in serious trouble.

Surprisingly, as religiosity wanes in Western Europe, the idea of some sort of life force or spirit is still very strong amongst many people.

In the extreme cases of the Czech Republic and Estonia, although less than 20% of those sampled reported a belief in a deity, 50% or more, on top of this, believed in some sort of spirit or life force.

Clearly these are ideas that are very appealing to our minds either because they superficially seem good explanations or because they are comforting to us in some way.

In this video I wish to show that however appealing such a belief may be, it brings with it such a huge avalanche of issues, all of which have been unveiled as science has rolled ever onward, that wishful thinking or ignorance (of the problems) now remain as the only reasons to maintain a belief.

My hope is that almost everyone viewing this video will get something out of it. Perhaps an argument or some scientific fact you have not heard before, or perhaps an argument used in a way you had not previously considered. If this is true of you at the end of the video then it will have been worthwhile.

How the body of flesh without spirit is dead person or helpless(James 2:26; Matthew 26:4; or Mark 14:38), we must indispensable let us understand something about spirit.
