This is a Raspberry Pi case I printed in 3D on Shapeways. This is the first revision of this case. I'm sure I will have to make some changes.

  • Did you use a 3D file of the original board design in order to create good fit of the board inside? If you never tested the the case with the board, you can't calculate the minimum opening for the vents. It is possible that you made larger than needed ventillation openings.

  • @singularitysoon The Google sketchup 3D file came after I had already designed and printed my case. (I'm ahead of my time). I instead used info and images that were posted on the site. The fan made 3D file dimensions, didn't seem to be 100.000% exact but it's really very close and seems to match my case. All of the holes I've created have a bit of tolerance so they should fit albeit a bit loosely. I will make adjustments to the model when I get an actual board to measure.

  • @singularitysoon You keep talking about the ventilation openings being larger than necessary. Please show or point me to the specs of the required ventilation or the amount of heat the board produces so I will know the necessary amount of ventilation that is necessary for the RPi board. Or else how can I make these changes you keep saying that are necessary? How did you determine that? Do you have a spec or are you just pulling that from the air or somewhere else?

  • Not from my head, it's from my professional experience. Cases with the vents are tested. If there are not enough holes, new holes are added. Engineers are conducting these tests. Vent holes are never random. Also, structural strength should not be diminished by the vents...

  • @singularitysoon So your first message said my ventilation holes are too large and is not needed and will even cause dust problems and now you're saying there are not enough ventilation holes? You didn't answer my question: Where's the spec? Trolls and Scoffers don't create anything but negativity. I went to your profile but I didn't see your superior case video. Begone troll / scoffer!

  • Will it pass a standard drop test with the board inside? Can you please show this case with the board? It is securely positioned inside? Vent holes at the top are not a good idea, because dust is collected inside and may cause fire potentially. Is the plastic flammable or not?

  • @singularitysoon Other than the 10 boards that were auctioned to 10 lucky souls for a few thousand dollars each, the $35 RPi boards haven't started selling or shipping yet. Therefore, I don't have one and I can't film an actual board in the case yet. Drop test? Really? Do, you plan on dropping it? Dust build up? Really? Have you opened any old computer to see how much dust is in it? Vent holes? So electronics don't get warm or hot but dust will spontaneously combust?
