He appears unflappable. I realize they are doing a sound check, but some musicians are so tightly wound that anything off-key, off-tempo or errant sends them in a huff.
What a treat to listen to and watch. To remember that he is blind is even more amazing.

The title is "That's Just the Way It Is". Although it's been covered by many artists, as well as sampled.. I think he is probably going off of Bruce Hornsby's version as he is also a pianist/singer. =) (I also believe he was the original performer of this song!)

I hope he's a 2pac fan also

Anyways, sorry for even commenting. I just thought he was good, just having hyperacusis and tennitus stinks rather. Being part of the ASD has it's advantages and disadvantages, I suppose.

NamekianPikkoro7 sorry that you have those severe hearing issues. Derek is highly sensitive to noises too.
When they were setting up the P.A. just before this was video`d there was an almighty feedback that really shook Derek up.

I understand that he was warming up, I hear even professional recordings with mistakes.
However, I thought that was an electric piano. How can one be out of tune? Just wondering.

The Western music system of tuning [Equal Temprament] allows a piano to be played in every key equally.
To acheive this there has to be a compromise.
Only the octaves are perfect intervals.
The fourth and fifth which are perfect intervals in Eastern music are slightly adjusted out of true in Western music.

I hate having perfect pitch. Hearing all the mistakes annoys the heck out of me, although I absolutely love music.

NamekianPikkoro7, Derek wasn`t making mistakes, he was just warming up before the session?
It is more correctly put as having "relative pitch".
The note intervals of the modern piano (and music system) are slightly out of tune compared the natural/perfect harmonic resonance between notes -such as in accapella vocal music, or eastern music.
We in the West are just used to hearing every thing out of tune!
