10GHz / 3cm microwave mobile (yes, mobile!) QSO on 10.3681GHz FM on 19 Sep 2010. VK2TRF was mobile in a vehicle driving around Sydney, using a slotted waveguide type omnidirectional antenna, whilst my station VK2GOM was /P up at Wentworth Falls at around 2900ft altitude for a 75km path. Very interesting to observe the different signals and flutter whilst VK2TRF/M drove around. At points, the flutter is so fast, it creates an audible 'growl' to the signal, which is to be expected given the short wavelength and how quickly the flutter will occur on a moving signal at 10GHz. I would like to hear from any others in the world that have achieved 10GHz mobile contacts. We believe this 10GHz (moving!) mobile QSO may have been a VK first. I am told the record is 124km, but the 'mobile' station was in fact stationary.

  • Awesome! ... And very interesting. Congratulations! Out of curiosity; Where I can see the antenna used by VK2TRF/M? Your portable station very neat.

  • @EA5KGD Hi Kike, thanks for your comment. Jack's antenna is a regular slotted waveguide antenna, similar to if you tpe in '10ghz slotted waveguide' into google image search, the antenna on the second row in the middle. I would post a URL but youtube won't allow that - the spoilsports! 73 - Rob VK2GOM / G0MOH

  • wonder what the power out was for each of the transmitters? regards Colin VK2JCC

  • @colincolin30 Hi Colin, I was running 200mW barefoot from my Kuhne kit transverter, the other station was running 3W.

  • @combatwombat71 Thanks! Yes, I have seen on the Internet. It's like omnidirectional antenna beacons are used to here in 3 cm. Thank you so much again, Rob!!!
