Greg Hunter and David Esrati discuss the policy of allowing anonymous comments on the Dayton Daily News site. Also- why are some stories open for comment- and others not?
Who do they protect when they close comments? Who are they allowing a voice - when allowing the trolls?

  • KFodor - thanks for the comment- I've written a ton of posts about the abuse on the DDN comments section- including this one: esrati.com - comments on non-moderation of dayton daily news forums/5548/

This was part of the reason they moved them to FB. The new editor and publisher seem to be working to improve the paper. The new redesign is an improvement.

  • Back in the 1960's and 70's, WING radio had a daily feature called "Dayton Speaks". They would go out on the street and interview people, but those people were never identified...Ain't that the same thing?

However, it should be noted that the Dayton Daily News now only accepts comments on its' blogs and Facebook page. The paper no longer accepts comments on any news story. And it's largely because of the type of posts you mention.
