The Wizard - NES-Related Mistakes

If you visited my website a number of years ago, you may have come across a text file I wrote detailing the many mistakes made by the 1989 video game opus "The Wizard" - both factually and in presentation of the various games used. Here they are in video format.

(And yes, I know it's just a movie. I heartily enjoy this movie, as a matter of fact. Point is, 90% of the stuff in this video is stuff that any 9-year-old watching the movie at the time would've noticed as being blatantly wrong. They had a "Nintendo Consultant" on the payroll, for God's sake - they could have at least gotten the Zelda stuff right.)

It should be noted that this video only deals with things that are FACTUALLY wrong about the various games it depicts. There are plenty of other discrepancies in the film - like how they knew about the Warp Whistles when SMB3 had yet to be released, or how Spanky doesn't kill them all by oversteering his big rig on the drive to Universal Studios - but since those things either don't involve gameplay or cannot be irrefutably disproven, they're omitted.

If Jimmy DID score 50000 on Double Dragon, that should be the high score when Haley plays, not 25200.

@rollercoaster87 I'll bet a PlayChoice-10 does a hard reset whenever it starts a game, thus clearing out any high scores.

Umm...actually at the beginning of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, that IS the correct music. I own the game and have played it enough to know.

@InusSonCurtis As I mentioned before, they use the side-scrolling music for the top-down screen.

The whole premise of the tourny is wrong. No one ever pays any attention to points scored. If they did, you wouldn't rush to find the warp zone. You'd hit every brick, stomp every enemy, and grab every coin.

@jimmykinkade Actually, you'd just want to blaze through every level as fast as humanly possible - the enormous time bonus you'd get after each level would offset any points you'd miss out on during the level itself.

The point is, all of these mistakes could've been avoided if the screenwriter, director, producer, or anyone associated with the film had done even an ounce of research. Especially since they had a "Nintendo Consultant" on the payroll.

Getting 50000 on Double Dragon was met with astonishment at least. Even Corey mentions that Jimmy was only playing for five minutes, while pretty much asking how the fuck Jimmy got 50000. PFM.
