Thanks for the comment retardtiger. My uncle, Archie Crocket, was a fitter in Fairfield's and I knew Jimmy Airlie in the CP. I still see hie nephew fairly regularly. Tell your neighbour I've got quite a bit of Denny material.

My Dad worked in John Broons in the late 40's early50's he was a welder, he was also Pipe Major of the Renfrew Pipe Band 2nd in the worlds Champions in Belfast, Ireland I believe it was 1957, I really appreciate the videos from Clydebank, we lived there while I went to Clydebank High school, so the videos are very special to me,Thanx again

I was born in India in 1938, as a young boy at age 17 I began serving as a shipyard drawing office apprentice at William Denny's & Brothers from 1956 - 1962. Graduated as a Naval Architect from Royal Technical College ("The Tech"), Glasgow (now Strathclyde University) in 1962. Emigrated to USA in 1964. Loved Scotland, Glasgow and the "bonnie lassies of Clydeside"!

i am looking for images/video/information on hull 723 hms intrepid built at John Browns in 1962. I need stories and memories from the men that built her for our site at hmsintrepid.co.uk

I was there at the meeting at 3:21. Was it when they told us Fairfields engine shop would close but the yard would stay. Later I would be Jimmy Airlies apprentice in the fitting out basin.

My neighbour is an ex Denny turner, so I must try and get him to have a look at this.

really well done Tam, I did my time in Browns/UCS.as at the launch of the QE2.I remeber an apprentice who had a camera and worked in the east yard plating shop.Would that ne you per chance? I also had the chance to meet and fight with Jimmy Reid as I was the drawing office rep. CHEERS AND THANKS

Thanks for putting this together. Along with the music it's a beautiful and poignant bit of art. My old man used to work at Denny's in Dumbarton so all the shots of that particular yard really struck a note with me. Cheers and all the best.

Thanks for the Great Video & the History aspect. It lets me see how the ancestors worked...Although mineemainly only Built Small Leasure Craft for the 'well healed', and there is still one "The NELL" afloat today Built in 1887 at Greenock...

Remember the launch of the Empress of Britain ( 2nd one ). It was first launch my dad ever took me to. The noise, the ground vibrations and the dust everywhere when she slipped down to the river will live with me for ever. ( cooried into my Dad with fear ) Saw men laughing and crying. The apprentices in their white Boiler suits.
