ZHANG:
Mondays fire at the CCTV building in Beijing has become something of a running joke among Chinas online community.

On web forums and blogs, people used the fire to express their frustration at the state-run TV stations propaganda-driven coverage.

After news of the fire spread, propaganda authorities ordered the media to stop reporting on the incident.

But despite heavy censorship, Chinas netizens still posted photos and videos of the fire on popular websites.

And theyre reacting to the fire—and the Communist Partys response—with ridicule.

Internet users have used their digital creativity to photoshop these pictures of the building being attacked by giant robots and fire-breathing dragons.

Another popular joke is that CCTV created the biggest story of the year—and then failed to cover it.
