I usually dont upload too many railfanning videos but here's a really neat shot that I had to upload. As the lead locomotives round the bend, you can see the helpers (on the same train) above. Check Norfolk Southerns new AC power on the point of this coal train. On the front is an ES44AC, SD70ACe, and dash 8. The Helpers, a C40-9W and phase II SD70M, stayed on the rear of the train for the decent to add addition breaking for the steep grade. The loops in oldfort loop in and around the mountain multiple time. It's a great area!

  • Hey man I love ur videos I want to make a ns railroad to. By the way I'm new and what paints and powders do u use to Esther your freight and engines because i love ur weathering. Can u send me a link or something.

  • Hey! Well, welcome to the hobby then! Thank you for the kind words. I really do appreciate them. I use AIM weathering powders. I would recommend those. Theyre great to learn with because you can wipe them off if you mess up and then just restart! If you go to my youtube page, click on videos, and then enter "weathering" in the search bar, you should be able to find a few different "how to" videos. Thanks and good luck! Let me know if theres anything else I can help you with.

  • Great catch there Josh! Awesome consist. I didn't realize they had ac power this far south, and with helpers at that. Does NS always use helpers to take coal up and down the mountain? Thanks for sharing! kj

  • Thanks! That was the first time I've ever seen the SD70Aces. Yep, lately there's been at least one AC powered unit on just about every coal train I've seen out of asheville. I believe that may be new to the area, because thats only the second time they've used the pushers going down hill. The use to cut them off at ridgecrest.

  • notice how quickly hey says thanks and see ya later goodbye really quick cuz hes cold and wants to get back into his car

  • lol yep! I was pretty cold out! Thanks for wathcing.

  • Thank you so much I appreciate it I'll get started by buying powder and I'll check out the videos. :)

  • Srry I meant weather ur freight and engines

  • It isn't EXACTLY modeled after this specific place, but much of the inspiration from out layout has come from the old fort loops and the line from Asheville-Old Fort, NC. Much of what you see on the layout can be seen around this area. Thanks!

  • @Weiberts not really, I just wanted a nice bridge on my layout. Thanks for watchin my vids
