Which version of Gish do you play? I don't remember if there was ever an uncolored health meter, but at least mine is colored in 1.6.

It's version 1.52, which I guess is the latest one available on Steam. (Maybe someone should look into that.)
Recording is done with the rather excellent BB Flashback Express, which probably could do cropping as well, but I use VirtualDub for that.
As for the video, I think I just got lucky, really.
