Amazing how they created such believeable effects back then. Today's CGI effects all look unrealistic, corny and overcrowded. The special effects of the original Star Wars films remain, to this day, unsurpassed in their attention to detail, good taste and suspension of disbelief.

@Timrath : A-freakin-men! Today, it seems that no-one can make a film without masturbating (constant zooming and shaking) the camera lens... when there even IS a camera.
The zoom lens is NOT a penis. Maybe modern film makers need to figure that out.

It is an edit of the original. The 1980 version (sitting on an older deteriorating tape) included scenes from "The Black Hole." Those shots were removed for this 1996 sci-fi channel rebroadcast — used to gin up support for the special editions. I guesss Disney saw no benefit to them.
