#4: Finally, per your accusation: "Degrading a fat child's body for being fat is child abuse." How is trying to save children's lives "degrading"? The word ignorance implies ignoring facts and basic wisdom; is that what you're advocating? I didn't hear any name-calling in this film, just valid concerns. I refer again to Dr. Oz's website, which features many articles about the national epidemic/crisis of childhood obesity and how it shortens kids' lives via a wide variety of diseases.

#3: You're losing sight of the fact that this short film is not a documentary, it's an artistic representation of one woman's opinion, interspersed with statistics and facts to back her up. The candy bar/child abuse statement can correlate to the government's oft-enforced viewpoint that parents are responsible for minor offspring's general health & welfare. I ask, what's the difference btwn. abusing a child from without (beating) or killing him from within (a life- threatening diet)?

#2: For your information, according to medical research, to some extent one CAN tell what's happening inside a person's body just by looking at it. For example, the statement "waist size can impact your overall health" is quoted from cardiologist/ heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz's website (posted under "Articles on 9-2-2010):

"A waist size over 35 inches in women and over 40 inches in men greatly increases the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and more."

  • @lijewi: I'd like to address your points, but have to break it up into separate comments due to space limitations.

#1: Millions of street cameras throughout the United States capture the images of those who dare to venture out into public, so permission seems to be a thing of the past. We live in a "surveillance society" as the following article points out, so people cannot assume privacy outside their homes anyway.

Boston Globe: "US Doles out Millions for Street Cameras" - August 12, 2007

  • How can you think filming people without their permission and judging them is okay? You can't tell what's happening inside a person's body just by looking at it. The people you're judging in this video could be perfectly healthy. I am vegan, I am a supporter of animal rights, but I am also against the tactics you are using in this video.

"Giving a fat child a candy bar is child abuse" - no, no it's not. Degrading a fat child's body for being fat is child abuse.
