The 180 Movie - Revisited

A few weeks ago I posted a review of Ray Comfort's movie 180 and it appears that it ruffled quite a few feathers.

More than a few people commented that I was an evil baby killer for advocating a pro-choice point of view presumably because giving a woman a choice on such a serious matter which relates to her own body and her own wellbeing and health and which also includes the choice NOT to have an abortion so obviously means that I am an evil bastard.

It seems that quite a lot of them seem to think that having the right to choose, means that people will be compelled to go through with it which seems to say more about them than it does about me.

However the thing that caused the most fuss was my observation that the blond girl with the pig tails that we now know to be called Alicia, appeared to be reading off a cue card on at least one of her answers to Ray's interview.

This was based on her body movements and the way that the tone of her voice changes and how her speech pattern is different but in my last video I also showed an enhanced still image from the movie which I suggest show someone holding a cue card up to her face.

It seems that this put the cat amongst the pigeons and almost straight away, Ray felt the need to address my assertions directly on his blog where he suggests that I am a conspiracy theorist, he somehow confuses me with Thunderf00t, and then posts a link to my review.

He sent me quite a few viewers and I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Ray for the shout out and for promoting my work.

Then Yesterday an article, presumably written by someone called Anita who can be reached at Ray's organisation, living waters publications, was posted on the Christian News Wire which clearly states that I said that Ray was using paid actors in the movie, not once but twice which is not true at all.

I said that the people appearing in the movie were being prompted with cue cards which is something completely different.

of course since my original review Ray has released footage of the full interview and it is interesting to note that when it gets to 7:40 on the clock, where I say that you can see something being held up towards her, the footage in the clearer alternate angle is cropped so that you can not see Alicia's sunglasses.

This red object in her lens isn't nearly convincing enough unless you think Ray is really trying to deceive people. It doesn't make sense why Ray would do this. He's never been accused of doing it before, and if he has it still wouldn't make sense, because supposedly 99% of the time it's obvious he's not prompting anyone so what reason would he have to give someone the answer to his question? I think Alicia's response sounded mechanical because she's known it as a kind of mantra all of her life.

Having watched the video where I show my allegation and the evidence that I use to back up that allegation, is the allegation I am making...

a - that one of the people being interviewed was prompted on one of their answers

b - that that person is a paid actor and that Ray is guilty of deception

Make your choice and then go read the christian news wire article and tell me if Ray is being dishonest

@alphaenemy That's a completely baseless allegation. Ray lives in a quaint home with his wife and rides his bike to work everyday. He stands for hours open air preaching in front anyone who'll listen, especially those who hate his guts. Ray makes some money, but he's not a greedy deceiver. His main focus is spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

@findinglost He does argue fully with the declarations in his previous review of 180. He mentions this brilliant piece of detective work in it, but most of the review deals with his other criticisms.

@maryjo1955 I was being sarcastic because Ray is a liar and has been proven so on national TV (remember that Nightline debate?). And while I agree people change cadence and positions on camera they don't look and sound like their reading from a cue card when asked a feeder question..

@jcgadfly I didn't say Ray used photoshop. I'm thinking more along the lines of the ragmags that use photo shop to make an image look like something it's not to support their sensationalist comments. Really. Haven't you ever had a conversation with someone where they might look away, or their tone of voice, cadence, or expression change as they are really THINKING about what to answer? You ppl who are so hung up on Alicia's tone of voice need to get a life!!!
