Love both singers, but never thought Behrens was remotely adequate to be singing Brunhilde. Varady is awesome.

@Caskader lol!! i love her anyways but seriously lol!

Simply untrue. A recent televised special shows her in excellent and very-well preserved voice.

why?! I thought Sieglinde was a spinto but could also be done by a lirico-spinto... and Julia, imo, has that exactly 'methalic&dramatic' voice that she asks for, a not to heavy one and... I liked her! Do you think she was too lyric for Sieglinde?! Peraphs it was not big enough..., her voice... I guess it sounds a little 'strange' her "O hehrstes Wunder!(...)", but... well... Teach me!!, please... xD
I think both ladies sound terrific. We'd be lucky to have singers like them around now. Just saw Elektra at the Met and was left wondering where all of the big voices have gone?

You might like a "fuller" voice for this role (and that is fine), but she NEVER ruined her voice. She went on AT LEAST another 10 years singing beautifully. Taste is one thing, and I get that, but she had a LONG career.. while she is now retired, she sill has her voice.
