(the portion of the above that's specifically referenced in my video is found at the 2:33 marker, go ahead and pull up his video, watch it, then pause it there to follow what I'm talking about.)

The video in the link above is attacking a straw man by not addressing the total and actual argument vis a vis UHI (Urban Heat Island) issues as they relate to global warming calculations.

The actual question is not if it was compensated for, but where it was and wasn't compensated for to what degrees and that all relative to the actual urban conditions throughout the world. In order to compensate for something you have to have accurate knowledge as to the totality of the situation around ALL the climate stations. To demonstrate this go to, and pause it at the 2:33 spot or where ever you can clearly see the city and surface temperature overlay. Now aside from the fact that the further from the equator you are the more spatially distorted things get relative to the equator (the red areas that are warmer, because they are in the north and south, appear to cover a far larger percentage of the planet than is actually impacted because of the distortion needed to display a sphere's surface on a rectangle) if you look at where it's very red it covers the areas where there's significant Russian urban development. In order for the compensations made for UHI to be properly applied is if you know the degree of urban expansion relative to ALL climate stations. Now in the US it's amazingly cool relative to Russia. If you look at the people, the educated ones that have looked at this issue, you'll see that they claim that it's a failure to compensate correctly for UHI on a universal scale that is causing the problem. This seems to bare itself out in the very map you give because the urban areas most disconnected from intensive scrutiny as to the totality of urbanization relative to the rest of the world seem to almost be perfectly delineated along Russian territorial lines. A simple underestimate in some calculation for the degree, relative proximity, or a few other factors, seems a wee-bit more likely response for the reason Russia is so much hotter than normal while the more industrialized areas like China and the US (remember we consume 1/4 of the world's energy WITHOUT as many global dimming particulates to keep us cool!) are barely off their average.

So that's the real issue, not whether or not it's been adjusted for, but whether or not the adjustments, and the vast amount of assumptions made when applying the adjustments, are justified.

  • I'm trying to get greenman to address some of the problems in the video. It's not clear what he is trying to deny, but it is clearly a well made cheap propaganda bit.

There are premises greenman needs us to accept out of hand: e.g. that UHI Effect is seen most in big cities - rather than in rural areas where small town turns to medium town etc.

The map of anomalies would presumably be using already-corrected data, that had UHI Effect ompensated for, or taken out of the picture.
