Joe took Nick into the first aid tent, setting him down onto one of the soft cots they had laid out for wounded soldiers. Nick moaned and groaned in pain, but he wasnt aware of it, his mind was on Sarah, and the baby that would very soon come into his life. He knew he had stay alive to see that precious baby girl, he wasnt going to let her live without her father.
Joe: Nick just stay awake ok, theyre gonna help you, you wont be hurting anymore ok?
Nick: (slowly nodding his head yes in response to Joe's words)
Kevin: Atleast we know now that he'll be safe, they cant damage the hospitality of our camps, just like we cant with theirs
Joe: Then Im staying here, im staying alive so I can go home to Jen
Kevin: You cant just stay in here if your healthy
Joe: ("coughing") Oh man, I think Im (coughing) really coming down with something
Kevin: (hitting him in the back a good couple hard times) There, you should be fine now
Joe: (rolling his eyes) Kevin do you want to put your life in danger out there when we've just gotta survive 3 more days, or do you wanna stay somewhere where you know your life is guaranteed to be saved?
Kevin: Joe you know as well as I do that I'd much rather stay here and protect myself so I can go home to my family, but we owe it to our country to fight for the freedom that we have
Joe: (sighing, knowing that he had no way to argue with that) I know
Kevin: And its like I said when we first got here, putting our lives on the line here not only means we're doing this for our country, but we're doing this for the girls too, and my daugher, Nicks daughter
Joe: I know, Im sorry
Kevin: We're gonna make it, and so is Nick, he's just gonna have to go home alittle injured
Joe: (looking over at Nick who was calming down a good bit as they gave him some novicane to clear up the pain) Ya, atleast he's alive
Kevin: Thats better
Joe: Ok, I can do this, 3 days, and I get to see her again
Kevin: (patting him on the shoulder) You'll make it, just keep her in your heart
Joe: Trust me, she's there, all the time
Kevin: (smiling and walking out of the tent)
Joe: (looking over at Nick once more, seeing that he'd fallen asleep, yet looked alot better than before. He gave a soft smile to himself and walked out of the tent after Kevin)
**With the girls**
They had been shopping and were on their way home from Mr and Mrs Jonas' house to pick up a sleeping Cailey.
Danielle: Well, only three more days until they're home
Jen: I know, I cant wait anymore, I want him to be home now
Sarah: Me too, this baby cant wait much longer
Danielle: And Cailey misses Kevin so much
Jen: And Ive gotta tell Joe about his babies
Sarah: They just need to come home, like now
Jen: Now would be good
Danielle: Definatley
Jen: I wish that would happen, they'd come home a few days early and surprise us
Sarah: Ya, like they could get by with that one
Jen: Ya you're right
Danielle: Well the way I look at it is, they've survived 3 months, surely they can survive three days
Jen: Ya you're right, and honestly I dont think they'll be fighting those last few days, I mean they've gotta get packed up and ready to leave so, that could take three days right?
Sarah: They're men, they dont take a week to pack up a suitcase like we do
Danielle: She has a point
Jen: (giggling) Ya she does
Sarah: Shut up guys
Danielle: (giggling)
Jen: (smiling and laying her head back on the seat, staring out at the setting sun. Joe started to fill her thoughts, causing her to smile to herself. She ended up getting so lost in him that she didnt hear Danielle talking to her)
Danielle: Jen? JEN!!
Jen: Huh sorry
Danielle: You're home
Jen: Oh, thanks, bye guys
Sarah/Danielle: Bye
She walked into her house and shut the door, leaning her head against the door. She took a deep breath and was able to see him again. He became so real to her. It was almost as if she could feel his arms wind around her waist and hug her up against his chest, feel him bury his face into her neck and place a trail of kisses down her neckline, making his warm breath run down her back, giving her the sweetest peace and assurance. But when she turned around, he wasnt there, just an empty room. A pang of disappointment filled her heart as she headed up the stairs, feeling alittle more tired than usual.
I have a question; as I'm from canada where it's a "peaceful" country, do Americans really get sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to fight for the saftey of Americans? Or do they just go there to fight to try to help that country?
