brief beginner outside to an inside spread eagle. may 30, 2008. I've been skating for 4 months now and I am trying to perfect my spread eagles. I can do much better spread eagles, but since I videotaped this myself, it was kinda hard to stay in the digital camera's focus... i will see if i can get a better video of my spread eagles, they are one of my fave figure skating moves :-)

  • @wonderwoman7020 If you can't afford lessons right away, I'd recommend at least taking group classes with a certified coach, so that you can learn the basics. Another option would be to see if you can split the cost of a lesson with another skater, as some coaches may allow for this. This way, although it's not a private lesson per se, you would be getting more attention than you would in your group classes.

  • @triciamatsuda If you can't afford lessons, I would AT LEAST take a ice skating group classes. That way, you'll at least be shown correct techniques by a good, and (hopefully) qualified teacher.

Hmmm... it's really not a good idea to teach yourself how to skate. You may end up with bad technique, bad habits are hard to break, plus it can be dangerous! I mean, if you can't afford lessons it's OK, but personally, I believe that having lessons is fundamental in figure skating. Before my coach started taking lessons she taught herself how to skate, and she ended up with cellulitis on her toe from picking the wrong way on toe loops.

  • So?

  • Why I can do it????? I can do double jumps and spins but I can do this and the teapot...why?

  • The day that you were practicing this, May 30, 2008 that was my birthday last year!! Sorry, just noticed that, really random.

    Ha Ha =)

  • im sure u could do that kind of stuff on your own and you just might be able to do some higher level stuff-i mean, its really not complicated, basically its just working out a lot!! idk how much it wud help u-its pretty basic stuff tho, but it helped me get much much stronger-but thats mostly b/c i was not athletic like at all before i started to ice skate!

  • well yea but i'm just not sure if i am going to skate for that long-i really really want to skate in college, but idk if i'll have time!!! yes, more height will most probably help you if you want to get to doubles and triples-and building up ur core strength shud help u with that!! i take a cross-training/gymnastics class and all we work on is flexibility and core strength (like pushups and crunchies and cardio stuff0.

  • Yeah, rockers and counters are hard to do, especially counters, haha. You are so lucky you are 14, you started late, but not as late as me! You might be able to do doubles and triples, unlike me... they say that if u start as an adult, its not likely that you will do doubles and triples... Im working on fixing all my jumps by jumping higher and getting rid of my bad wild free leg habit... I do flip jumps like Caroline Zhang lol. Anyway, Im jealous ur 14, by the time ur my age, ull be a pro!!!!

  • ohhh i see....i can kinda do brakets...and my friend showed me how to do a rocker-i did one, but it was really slow :) wow yea im 14-hehehe ur like 10 years older than me...and ive been skating for a year now-you're much better than me!!! AND you're a full time nurse with college-wow!!! thats impressive!!!
