Frankie Laine "The Greater Sin"

This was a recording made in 1958 it never was a hit by any standards. Columbia never put it on an LP so it never made it onto a CD, but Frankie had a softer side and I think this was one of his best.

Nice song, and another gem from Frankie Laine. By the way, I like some Rock N Roll, but I genuinely lament the fact that good music went by the wayside when rock took over.

@arpeggio1358 I thought you would like this one. Your right good music started to fade away when Rock came along. It took a few years for it completly die out but by the 70's it was all but gone. Back in the fifties we had all types of music but today it's all have to sound the same. 30 yrs from now who is going to remember any of it.

@markalson1938 I hope that there will still be people like you and me who will keep this music alive. Maybe there will be another Harry Connick Jr. who will form a band and keep the music of the 30s, 40s, and 50s alive. i remember being floored when i first heard Connick when he was in his early 20s, and he was playing the music of the past rather than playing rock.

@arpeggio1358 People like Connick are few and far between because the record companies won't record them. I have found out from YT that there is a audience

out there for this type of music if the music establishment would give it to us.

Rec'd your reply. Thanks. Do you remember a song Frankie had back in the 50's about the Old Master Painter? It isn't anywhere around these days....do you have it? It was played often by D.J's on the radio.....

I hate to break this to you but, Frankie never recorded "Old Master Painter". This was a big hit back in 1950 and several singers had

hit with it, but not Frankie. The biggest hit was

from Richard Hays #2. (I have it on YT) other recordings were from Dick Haymes, Peggie Lee & Mel Torme, Phil Harris, Snooky Lanson, and Frank Sinatra, sorry no Frankie.

I bought my copy of the song back in 1958 when it was new. It was "Rock N' Roll" Time and a song like this didn't get any play time at all on the Radio. Columbia didn't do anything to push it either. It was never heard from again. It was never put on an album so I think very few people got to hear it. That was a shame. Frankie was just as good with the soft tender numbers as he was with the big dramatic songs.
