This is the best version of Toby Dammit. It still has some Italian subtitltes but it keeps Terrance Stamp's own voice and narration. In other versions in completely Italian. I love the soundtrack and was very happy to have found it on Itunes and play it when I want to feel weird. . Fellini was one of the true cinematic artists and stylists----this sort of cinema has all but disappeared now and movies have become virtual documentaries. Film should be like entering a dream world, simialar to ours
Fellini's circus-like atmosphere is a cavalcade of decadence, bizarre images, and human gargoyles. Nino Rota's jazzy, wigged out score lends an other-worldy touch, too.
Having everything shot through orange filters apparently conveys that the protagonist has arrived in hell.
Strangely enough it gives the impression that the afternoon sun simply parked itself on the horizon forever, providing the warm glow of honey. La dolce vita, no doubt, even if no one seems to be having much fun.
This the better version. It is Terrance Stamp's voice instead of being dubbed like the vrsion I've seen. There is no one like Fellini. When you watch a Fellini film you enter another world like all great films should do instead of being a mirror reflection of the "reality" you have just come off the street. Hitchcock said: "A housewife is trapped in the house all day doing chores all day and the last thing she wants to see is a movie about a housewife". I feel that way about moives.
