  • Yeah i see that blocking with the wrist thing, not good, not good at all, you would get your wrist broke if you try to block a strong kick, I have seen that happen, even though we block attacks i always try to get out of the way first and just use the block as a cover or a parry especially with kicks or if i have to block i block kicks with both arms.

  • Did my eyes just see dan grades kicking empty space after their partner had already moved to the side? The best thing about Coconut Creek Karate Club is that it makes my pretty average dojo look like the place of champions.

  • @lilhawk2892 I know what koken or kakuto is. Don't need to look it up. But I can't see a koken/ kakuto (jodan) uke anywhere. I'm actually refering to the age uke and how they are poorly performed in the video. The distance is wrong and they keep defending with the wrist which makes you prone to getting your wrist hurt. Besides being a nuisance, a hurt wrist means no more strong zukis, no more grabbing, etc. And in the end that means your ass gets kicked. So it's a bad idea...

  • @eisbombenhagel if you care at all look up koken.

  • karate on mushrooms :P

  • @dawid30m Not true. I have been practising for 6 years and found out that kihon and kata with constant repetition, helps you put the techniques in your muscle memory. Eventually you get to the point where you don't think when you fight, it just comes out whether it's real or not, it would be implanted in your brain and becomes reflex. So they are good for 'real fights', anything is good.

  • nice kumite

  • @Lukex29

Its a sad truth that the majority of modern day karate has become so watered down in the spirt of making money that anything of real use is pretty much discareded simply because the majority of income comes from children, an if a kid get hurt well they will most likly leave, thus less money.

Machida only really began cross-training in ernest about year to a year and a half ago. What his farther taught was not exactly modified but a much more traditional style.
