Today's $9.99 thrift store find: a Panasonic SG-X7 early '90s stereo system with radio, turntable, and cassette. Just like my larger Panasonic stereo from 1994 that I featured in a previous video, this one is built with very cheap and lightweight plastic materials, but the quality of all the components is surprisingly good. I really like the styling on this one, too, including the "digital" tuner dial scale, the "concealed" turntable, and the cassette button-style function controls.

  • Is this like worth a lot, do you know?? I have one also.

  • @jGracePro Like I said in the video and description, I paid $10 for this stereo (including speakers), so don't expect a high price for it.

  • why isnt that branded as Technics ???

  • Panasonic mostly sold complete integreated stereo systems, such as this one with a built-in tuner, cassette deck, and amplifier. Technics mostly sold individual audio components. That was the distinction in their marketing.

  • That cover has a real 80's style to it...In some ways this unit looks a lot like a VCR. I have noticed those "digital" style tuning dial frequency numbers on a Panasonic clock radio too.

  • I'm thinking it is circa 1988-90 or so... Google Image Search turns up photos of an ealier SG-X7 in silver instead of black, and with an FM stereo/mono switch which mine lacks. My family also had a similar but slightly nicer Panasonic stereo, circa 1985, that was silver and had an automatic record changer, lighted dial pointer, FM AFC, and good two-way woodgrain speakers with 6" woofers -- but despite its cheapness, this one here has by far the best-sounding AM tuner!

  • That same exact model was availible in pink too.

No, you won't make any money selling it on Ebay. Not to be snippy, but ten bucks at the thrift store is the right price for this kind of setup. If you're just looking for something really cheap to listen to music, it's a good deal. But it isn't hi end or even "mid-fi", of course. . Still a better deal than the "cheap" electronics you'll find at WalMart or Target these days. Can't beat the price.

  • I saw one like that and it had binding posts on the back...

  • @vwestlife Yeah. I collect record players though, it would hurt too much to sell lol.

  • Sorry not to sound rude but my grandparents own this model and they purchased this back in 1984 at sears. Its definately a nice system

  • Nice all in one. From the design I'd say it was made sometime between 1987-1990.
