Initially trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, Richard Seymour moved through advertising and film production design before launching Seymourpowell with Dick Powell in 1984. Today, Seymourpowell is one of the world's leading design and innovation firms and Seymour one of Great Britain's most accomplished designers and futurists.
So when Seymour talks about the future being "inhibited and retarded by a lack of imagination", it should be taken for the major challenge that it is.
In The imagination challenge, the third installment of the Eastman Innovation Lab's special edition Into the future video series, Seymour says: "Up until relatively recently what you imagined, such as the author, could extend beyond what you could do. But the weird thing at the moment is we're dealing with a world where what we can do extends beyond what we can imagine."
