Hurricane in Miami (Silent) 1948

A silent print of the 1948 Hurricane that caused significant damage to the South Beach are of Miami Beach, Florida. Mr. Rosenblatt toured Ocean Drive and Collins avenue to record damage to his business.

Attention Barron Sherer, Curator at the Florida Moving Image (Wolfson) Archive. This video is (NOT)of one of the two Hurricanes which struck South Florida in 1948. This video is of the aftermath of Hurricane King, a major (cat.-3) Hurricane which made a direct hit on Miami and Miami Beach on October 17, 1950, and I can prove it. I have some still photos taken by a newspaper photographer right after Hurricnae King which appeared in the local Miami Daily News (news-paper) the next day.

Thank you very much for the update. This could be a case of old film stock. All the dating we have on the reel is the date code and the date supplied to us by the donation record. We will look back over it and change the date if it is Hurricane King

This Video is the damage left in the wake of (Hurricane King), which struck Miami and Miami Beach around Mid-night on October 17, 1950. King caused 3-deaths in Florida. It's eye was only 5-miles in diameter. The pressure was 28.20 inches when it hit Miami. Maximum sustained winds were 122 MPH with gusts to 150 MPH at the Weather Service Office in Miami. The damage zone was only 14-miles wide. King was a very small storm, but packed a big punch, as most October Hurricanes often do.
