I like your use of “self-preservation" vs "self perfection”. I have always just differentiated the differences as real vs basic concepts training (most systems only deal with basic concepts or self perfection training and don't delve into the world of "real" fight training).
It only takes a few trips into the "real" world to learn that self perfection doesn't exist in the "real" fight world.

Grappling with a knife is guaranteed suicide.

200% right.

You are spot on! All the pretty stuff goes out the window when the shit hits the fan!

Some great points, but don't assume a knife fight is going to the ground. Guys who are way bigger than you or are totally insane might try to take it there, but a real street thug who's just after your cash doesn't want to get hurt either. If cornered fight back until you can run... then RUN. I was jumped in April by 2 big guys in between two parked cars in an attempted robbery, stabbed 7 times total. back, chest, and head. Hospitalized for a week with a collapsed lung. No fun. but I'm alive.

Thank you for cutting through all the bullshit. You are 100% correct..

Joe this is great stuff, I like it alot. We've been training our knife as realistic as we can ... thanks for a great video.

Thanks for the definitions dude. Seems we must be mainly MENTALLY ready for the real thing!! Thanks again!

Fact: at close range a knife even used by someone who lacks experience is more dangerous and potentially life threatening than a person up close with a firearm.
You are soooo right.
Thanx for the post and watch your top knot.
