    Look at 0:23 and freeze fame, he throws his pole in the air.

    The reason why the pole is fixed position is because the camera is STRAPPED to the pole. So the pole will always be in the same position in the shot. That is why he appears to move around the pole.

    It's obvious that his camera is strapped to the end of one pole. That is why he is skiing with one pole for some of the movie.
