Franz Liszt (1811-1886)

"Oh! quand je dors", G 282 (Victor Hugo, 1802-1885)

Kathleen Battle, soprano
Margo Garrett, piano.
Carnegie Hall, 1991.
_

  • Ms. Battle is one of the best ever!

  • Please hear Thomas Hampson's recording as well. Hampson just sang the world premiere of a cycle of 5 songs in February 2011, inspired by Liszt's Petrarch Sonnets. The American Liszt Society, honoring the Liszt Bicentennial, commissioned William Bolcom to write a cycle using texts of 5 Petrarch Sonnets. The result, "Laura Sonnets," was superbly premiered by Mr. Hampson and pianist Craig Rutenberg at the 2011 ALS Festival at the University of Georgia, Athens.

  • Thank you so much for this beautiful video. Ms. Battle goes immediately into my 'Opera Therapy" playlist. :-))

  • Another exceptional performance. Thank you operazaile, for posting.
