The compact nature of the D-Lux 4 means it can be with you all the time. But despite its compact size, it offers top Leica quality and gives the photographer plenty of artistic freedom. The D-Lux 4 is ideal, whether for subjects composed with lots of forethought or for spontaneous reportage. The Ergonomic layout of controls and intuitive Operating system make it a pleasure to handle the D-Lux 4. Focus, shutter speed, stops and Exposure override can all be set manually with the Joystick giving the real enthusiast scope for highly individual picture composition. Of course you can also use the intelligent automatic mode: Depending on the subject and photographic situation, the camera automatically selects the best mode from Scene Select, either macro, landscape, portrait, night portrait, or night scene. The Professional Software Capture One 4 (RAW Data converter) makes sure that the RAW data supplied by the CCD sensor is "processed" in optimum quality.
@ryanhayn depends what you want to use it for. it's great camera to go street shoot. when i had the huge nikon d300, it was making people nervous. it's like pointing a gun to their face. but with this, you can even shoot people on the street as they go. .... and you can still get good quality FOR THAT PURPOSE.

@ryanhayn true, but micro four thirds is a joke, not that much better then a compact. I bet this camera would be on par with the GF1. The sony Nex 5 is where it is at. Much bigger sensor......

@ryanhayn Yeah, but look for Leica from 50 years ago, you will want to take pictures with it immediately. It's Art. Do you want to use your Panasonic/Sony from 5 years ago? I don't!!!! That's the difference.

this is actually a superb small camera

This camera has a puny 1/1.63" CCD, which is about as small as they come. The Panasonic GF1 has a way larger CCD. This Leica has a fixed lens, the GF1 as interchangeable lenses. The one way in which this camera is better than the Panasonic GF1 is in its name. Leica is known for their high-end cameras, too bad this isn't one of them.
