Without this movie I never would have read the book. Or the sequels. Witout this movie I wouldn't know who David Lynch was and I wouldn't known to look for all his work in the future. That he doesn't think much of this film is kind of funny to me. It's what led me to my favorite series in books, Dune, and my favorite film of all time Muholland Drive. Thank you for Dune David Lynch.

I remember seeing this when it came out (doesn't seem that long ago!). I think Lynch's version is perfect for creating an "other world" feeling - which is exactly what should occur given Dune's storyline. I will always be sorry that Lynch was ashamed of this gem - I remember this movie frame by frame after 20 years. Doesn't that tell you something?? (Hint: make another Dune movie!!!)

i tried so hard to read the book, but kept on getting confused. And the movie was equally terrible and more confusing.

its a hella a niche audience

Despite what anyone says Lynch was given six door stop sized books filled with a load of ideas that only a few intellectuals and weirdo's would understand and a load of names that no one could pronounce or remember and still managed to make a kick ass action/scifi movie that was watchable by most people. I mean could you make a movie of the silmarillion? I think not.

That's because the Silmarillion is not one coherent narrative. It is a history book written in the style of a medieval romance

Yes you are right, the Baron was essentially gay, but this is only hinted at. Feyd is supposed to be the perfect specimin of manliness so I guess it is to be expected. I remember I used to have nightmares about the Baron when I was a kid!
