Slew O' gold is an amazing horse. I have one of his sons and he is amazing like his father and grandfather. He looks JUST like Slew O' Gold. Im so proud to have his son.

Was at Belmont that day - Angel is still the best jock I've ever seen at getting a horse to the line in front. Those were the days.

What a fantastic stretch drive! Cordero on Slew O'Gold and Terry Lipham on Bates Motel was no match as far as race riding. McCarron rode Bates Motel in the Malboro Cup after the Woodward.

thanks for posting, I remember this well. slew o' gold had a lot of heart to hold off a monster like Bates Motel.
Island Whirl didn't have his A game for this one but he was usu brilliant on the front end. Do you have his Woodward(82) win? or Bates Motel's Santa Anita Hcp win?(also 82)

Hey, you're welcome! Yes, Slew O' Gold really showed he was his father's son; the apple sure didn't fall far from the tree.
