He talks about it briefly in the second clip, so it sounds like maybe an idea that the he or the writers are working on is a deaf character/crush in Alyx's backstory that influenced her and DOG to learn how to sign as a way of communicating around enemies without speaking. That would be fun to see how that worked into the story, and how the characters would act it out during the game.

@agun17 Don't fret. This is valves style. They keep us in the dark as much as possible about something. Then when its announced people will be like "HOLY SHIT WTFBBQ".
You should know how good portal 2 was. It won a shit ton of awards and the fans loved it. Half-Life was the hit they are most known for. They need to make it as bad ass as possible. So us half-life fans won't rage for waiting so damn long.

Gabe wants to make Hl3 a game that is ahead of it's time without focusing only on graphics and physics.
Hopefully I'll live to see it and i'm 20.

@studioCR2 there was an idea i heard around HL2 time that they were going to have you controling npc's/ giving them orders with sign as freeman does not say anything. And after watching this im thinking the rumour was true after all.

It's clear: Mr. Newell is stooping to observe these inferior people so he can optimise his gaming environment for deaf players; ignoring the whole time that those might be actual people who who might have a charge card ready in their pockets to buy games!!! In short, he's barely even trying to hide his condescending contempt for this "process"; or, he's such a powerful gaming executive that he's only moments from having to hop on a waiting chopper to get him to his next meeting. @alvinandyounoob No she HAD a crush on a deaf guy before so that's how she learned sign language with Dog, that is all.
