The only reason why the show refers to Tamar as a soprano is because she sings soprano which is a voice part like in a choir. So many people have this misconception that singers are classified based solely on their range and not other qualities of their voices. Tamar may have the highest voice out of all her sisters but I still think she's more comfortable in the middle of her range as a second soprano.

@ 2:25...whats that song?
-
she is a soprano anyoen who hears her can tell that, lol more like a coloraltura due to her wide range. and even on the show they always refer to her as a soprano
-
First of all, I'm a singer myself and I know a mezzo when I hear one. Tamar is able to sing soprano in most cases but generally, she's a mezzo-soprano. I also think she could hit lower notes and maybe even higher notes. Think about it, have you noticed that she sounds like a mixture of Toni, Deborah Cox and Mariah Carey all in one? That goes to show you that Tamar is versatile and she is a mezzo-soprano.

@Gamehead131 shes a soprano singers dnt sing all off their ranges on records i hope u know that if tamar has said shes a soprano herself even toni has said it

Whats the song around 1:45
She's not even a soprano to begin with. She is a mezzo-soprano. Tamar sounds more comfortable in the middle of her range because she doesn't sing too low nor too high either.

@Gamehead131 That is a good point actually, though most mezzo-sopranos can't project as well above F5 in a full voice. Tamar does it decently. Shrugs, I'm not an expert lol

Love her voice and the video, however, she's not a spinto she a lyric coloratura soprano.

@tinaboo7 She not a lyric, her voice is too strong to be a lyric soprano. Coloratura has a light voice, that is agile, but it is still too light for Tamar. A spinto is a heavier vocal type. She has a powerful soprano voice, but not powerful enough to be a dramatic, that's why I say spinto.
