The Tau are skilled in war on doubt but they to have a form of ignorance. The novel Savage Scars show that the Tau believed they could get the Imperium to surrender as mankind is winning the war and knowing that they rule to two thirds of the galaxy. It's also in the novel that the tau are planed to be used as shields and allies in the east against the nids.

@jmcqueen80 Perhaps in their adolescence. As it stands now, tau are masters of war, with both ingenious weapons and tactics. The Imperium could attempt to destroy the Tau, but given the sacrifices that would have to be taken, they would soon crumble as well.

@Thevas11 Tau race is really weak if you look closer they couldn't handle the Imperium crusades and luck out with the Tyranids attacking just in time and when the nids attacked them they needed the guard to win.

Actually, you can say that.
The Imperium may have all those things you mentioned, but the effort required to muster enough of them to defeat the Tau now would be far too great for the Imperium to handle. Imperial worlds are isolated and haphazardly spead across the galaxy- easy pickings for the Tau, as we have seen in the Third Sphere Expansion.
As the Imperium crumbles from Black Crusades, Ork WAAAGH!s, and the failing Golden Throne, the Tau Empire grows ever stronger.
