I like how at the end of the video when the game is showing the ship's schematics (11:55), one of the parts is the "Snap-On Rear Laser." Maybe that's why this game has one-hit kills: Your ship is made from Tinkertoys.

If it makes you feel any better, you've gotten much farther in the game than I ever did. I got about as far as the first few rooms on Level 2 before I lost all my lives. I didn't have the save thing you have.
