Your English teacher was a fucking moron. The reason people visit Times Square is because it's cutting edge, and clean, and safe. I don't know what Sogo is, but no one would visit this place cause it's fucking filthy and run by triads. If anything it would've been like a zoo, where people come to see it from afar but never go in. exactly. it seems like it will always be money over culture, money over humanity. in the end, it's whatever squeezes out a little more for the bottom line with no regard to the cultural, human value. Scenic views- you can go to a million and one places to get a scenic view. There's only one kowloon city.

Yeah, now they're poor AND homeless. It's not like prostitution is career choice for most, destroying a community isn't going to improve the conditions that lead to it. If anything it's going to lead to people in even more desperate circumstances.

But of course that only matters if you're concerned about the lives of the people at the bottom, and they never are. Property values and scenic views though, hell yes!
