A pirouette in ballet dancing is a turn on one foot with the standing leg straight and high on the ball of the foot and the other leg turned with the heel forward. Keep the upper body strong, the shoulders down and the chin up when performing a pirouette with instructions from an experienced dance instructor in this free video ballet lesson.

  • I havent done ballet in almost 3 years and i needed a review for ballet class next year. Even though i havent done it in a long time, its very obvious that she is NOT doing this correctly. thats not really a typical land, she dosent know how to spot and is wabbling throughout the whole turn! i also noticed her arms and fingers seemed a little out of place. I would not recommend this to anyone because of these so called 'profesionals' doing this wonderful art wrong.

  • @s2l2n27 - Thank you for bringing up your concerns. The matter will be looked into as soon as possible!

  • Ballet experts don't do a preparatory step and they certainly touch their fingers together in first position. This woman is no expert.

  • what the heck!?!? that was horrible!!

  • you say not to sickle, but in the 'turnout' video it was all sickle sickle sickle!

  • haters gonna hate

  • ah the problem with the pirouettes we do now is that we do not move forward like we did in grade 4. Now we do on releve, one releve with the foot in passe (I think, it's basically where the toe of one foot is touching the knee of the other leg) then we do the turning. it's like in steps and I used to be able to manage it fine and even did a double once...but recently i've gone back to square one and i don't know why. i can't even do a single anymore...

  • um, yea she sucks...GET A REAL PRO BALLERINA TO TEACH THIS! Someone demonstraing a pirouette should not stumble back when they finish...ugh this video makes me cringe

  • @eHow thank u! :)

  • @s2l2n27 did you find anyone you would recommend on Youtube? I'm looking for some good vids

  • she looks more like a cheerleading coach than a ballet teacher.

  • @dogluver2031 Yes, she mixed up the terms and definitions, but when she said "this is a pirouette en dehors" she performed it correctly. And the same with the pirouette "en dedans." Halifaxx55: people on YouTube are generally nasty and critical. This woman finishes the pirouettes on demi pointe, which is not typical, but the preparation before them is perfectly acceptable. I would just prefer the verbal definitions given were correct. People tend to leave nasty comments, which is a shame.
