Veteran Musician and Musicologist Shri S.R. Janakiraman expounds the raga gAnavAridhi. He sings "daya jUcuTakidi vElara dASarathi" of tyAgarAja (1762-1847) and beautifully describes the meaning of the song as well as the key highlights of the raga. It is said rAma appeared to tyAgarAja in a dream telling him he would attain mOksha (salvation) in 10 days. During these days, he composed several kritis, of which daya jUcutaku is one. In it, he tells lord rAmA, "I have fulfilled my task and done what you commissioned me to do willingly". gAnavaridhi is a janya of the 35 mEla varga SUlini, an ekaika kriti vivadhi rAga with a vakra sampurna arohana and avarohana and beautiful scope for elaboration.
