MN State Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, says the "born that way" explanation of homosexuality is a lie, pointing to research that concluded there is "no gay genome." He made the comments as Republican lawmakers vowed to fight a bill making same-sex marriage legal in Minnesota. Voters in Minnesota recently defeated a Republican authored constitutional amendment that would have banned gay marriage.
The latest research into a "gay gene" contradicts what Gruenhagen said. Research is focused on epigenetics, throwaway DNA that triggers hormone production in fetuses. Although scientists haven't found a "gay gene," they haven't found a straight one either.
This isn't the first time Gruenhagen has made up facts. A few years ago, he claimed alcoholism and drug addiction is not a disease despite a consensus of medical opinion and evidence showing a physiological dependence.

Transcript:
When we're talking about gay marriage, we're not talking about an immutable characteristic, like the color of your skin. OK? The human genome map was completed in 2003. There is no gay gene. OK? So the concept that you're born that way and it's an immutable...ah...immutable characteristic is an unscientific lie. OK? The human genome map has been completed. I urge you as the news media to give both sides a fair and open hearing on this debate. Because it has tremendous ramifications not only for our society but for our children in general. Thank you.

There's no straight gene either...he needs to produce some type of degree or training as a geneticist or shut up!

What does a policy maker know about genetics? Well, maybe he took a biology course in college.

There's also no attracted-to-other-races gene. So I guess we need to put 1967's Loving vs. Virginia back on the table. Clarence Tomas wasn't born attracted to his wife. He mustered up some feelings for her. (And that must have taken a lot of work, but then again, the pickins were probably slim from the attracted-to-him pool.)

In other news, a geneticists decides that the First Amendment is a lie. Seriously, who cares what he thinks? He probably has little to no knowledge on what the truth is when it comes to causes of homosexuality.
