Permian Extinction 250 Millions years ago, which caused extinction of 95% of all living species in both animals & plants life.
This extinctions was slow and took nearly 80000 years in 3 stages:
1- Increase in world temperature by 5 degrees Centigrade casued by super lengthy eruptions of Siberian Trapes
2-melting the frozen resoviours of Mehtan gas in the seabeds and releasing Carbon 12 (C12), which is a green house gas and raised sea temp by anothre 5 degrees, and that casued
3-world temp raised 10 degrees and that caused the mass extinctions
it took Earth millions of years to recover and after 20 millions years from then Dinosaurs first appeared

@ishigum Shame Columbo is not on the case. Then they'd have told us who the killer was at the start! :-)

god i love this documentary!, it doesn't present one generally accepted theory and say 'ok this is what happened blah, blah, blah', it presents various ideas and says 'ok in theory 1 this is what could of happened blah, blah, blah', 'ok in theory 2 this is what could of happened blah, blah, blah', it really gives you a good broad understanding so you can make your own mind up.

@frickinradical Thats true, it gives enough information and differnet poins of views and makes you judge them to accept the one you think is the most likely cause.
The accepted it one now is a giant Impact hit Antractica and the shock wave caused Earth in its anti pod in Siberia to fracture releasing curtains of Lave for thousands of years which raised temp 5 degree C, and later underwater Methane resevoir melted and realsed into Atmosphere to raise it 5 more making it 10 degrees C hotter.

@KurdstanPlanetarium I would love it if Horizon made an episode on Hypercanes. The American version is so cheesy. Horizon makes it documentaries in such a wave that they stimulate the human imagination.
