http://www.dynamoclub.se In Russian Martial Art, manipulating the joints is one of the ways to break the opponent's body structure and cause a cognitive gap, in order to seize the initiative after evading an attack. After breaking the structure it is pretty easy to either execute a takedown or insert strikes. In this training example, the pummeling drill from wrestling is used as a fluid environment from which to apply the joint manipulations, from every available relative position in the close range and continue with strikes.

You can perform this drill in a slow and relaxed or in a hard and fast manner - just keep in mind that joint manipulations performed at full speed and power can cause injury. You can can always use the pummeling drill as a form of conditioning the way it is performed in wrestling, going only for the inside control, without attacking the joints.

  • Thank you for the nice clip. Its nice to hear a Swede speak English, sounds very similar to a Dutchman speaking English. (same accent) I am Dutch btw. Anyway, more to the point, very clear instruction on how to break the structure and I like the 'wrestling / grappling' part, where you apply the 'break structure' principle... I am going to add that to my Systema training as well. (this afternoon actually) Thanks.

  • Thank you for your kind words. Just one thing: it is a Greek speaking English, not a Swede:-) I've been living in Sweden for only a few years now.

  • Excellent vid. This is a good way to make your drills go further.

  • I was impressed with this clip and what you had to say.

I use the tai chi pushing hands drill in the same way you use the wrestling drill in this clip strikes or take downs.

  • nice explanation.
