The Source was a Chicago band that brought Candi Staton in to sing "You Got the Love" in 1996. That version is very R&B and hit the US R&B Hot 100 in 1986. The Source actually isn't involved in the versions of the song that became big European hits. British DJ John True Love took the beat of Jaime Principle's song "Your Love" and matched it with Candi Staton's accapella vocals to create the various versions of "You Got the Love" that hit the British Top Ten pop charts in 1991, 1987 and again in 2006 - the only song to ever hit the British Top Ten three times with the same singer. The song is now a European club anthem and Staton never does a concert in Europe without closing with the song which has sold over 3 million copies in its 20 year history. This is the original video that was created without Candi's involvement because she wasn't aware the song had been remixed until a BBC reporter called her to ask how it felt to have a Bristish Top Ten hit. Staton said, "I think you have the wrong number." The rest is history.

  • @evaswirlz So did I! Seems like we have the same story of finding this song!

  • @NYsam15 I had actually never heard the song before Florence and the Machine so I thought is was her song. Surprise! I watched the Sex and the City 2004 finale and heard this mix. Started doing a little research and boy am I glad I did. This song is the BEST!

  • I like dark DnB, Dubstep and other styles of music you hear today and not have much in common with this song but ... this song makes my hair stand on end, Incredible!

  • Best version

  • @benjo231

That wasn't the first time round, that was 89 -91.

The original was 86 and was very disco/gospel

  • they used this in the series finale of Sex and the City!

  • reminds me moby

  • Great tune, even greater message.

  • great tune

  • I remember this the first time round, vocals the same, prefer the original. Very detroit house. This is good but im a sucker for the originals.
