  • Well I think you know what you did wrong by now. Great that it was caught on camera so you can analyse your mistakes thoroughly. I am sure you appreciate that it was not the groundsman's fault as ultimately the climber should have foreseen that this could happen with the way it was rigged, his position and choice of cuts. Very good of you to post this as there is more to be learnt from this type of video than from 95% of the other "instructional" clips on youtube! Glad your OK.

  • What a bunch of cowboys!! Wouldnt let them anywere near my prize winning garden.

  • coulda killed the man........ let the rope down easy away from the climber..

  • I'm sorry guys but I find it a little disturbing that the Groundsman is getting grief for this, I bet he feels like crap for what happened but to suggest its him to blame is to harsh.

I think Beanz comment is very humbling and wise.

  • Fair play to posting this, yeah your ground was clearly at fault but hey ho, thats why there called mistakes and accidents.

  • Tie point higher up way past the balance point so comes down butt first.

Pull off rope to give some control and assistance.

    smaller sections.

as long as we live and learn, ive had worse so not judging just my thoughts.

  • Glad to see the climber is still ok, blimey this could have been loads worse. Good to see there are loads of helpful know it alls out there, more concerned with being right (and patting themselves on the back) instead of offering advice. We've all had little wake up calls in this industry, if not maybe as scary as this. I hope this helped to gel this tree team together abit more because we all have to be switched on when doing this work, its never just one persons fault, its a team effort.

  • I blame the groundie. He is responsible for letting the load run. Let's the climber get hit twice,???? Fired!

  • Ha, at least the comments have not completely slated me! There were a few factors involved in causing this accident, we were rushing the job, the groundie kept telling me take take each chog bigger and bigger, and really I should have known best. Lesson learnt, I now take much more care when rigging timber in this way!! For the record yes it did hurt an awful lot!!!
