INSIDE a Curtis 12xx ELECTRIC VEHICLE CONTROLLER - WE GOT IT OPEN without using the boiling-water technique that was posted by [surprise!] the Curtis company's competitor.

Contact us for info on how to open your Curtis controller, or how to ruggedize it, or how to prevent fireworks (failure) with internal and external methods, or how to restore original performance to your electric car, bike, scooter, or pickup truck.

This is probably the first photo of a Curtis Electric Car Controller (120V) that has been shown open. We got it open, using a dry technique, without having to use the water-opening method, which would have wet the components some more.

If an electric car (or any other electric vehicle) has jumpy starts, or is otherwise behaving oddly some of the FETs in the controller are likely burned, which is what happened to this Curtis Controller.

The cost of a new one is around $1,500 whereas FETs can be replaced, and the controller used again. Contact us IF YOU NEED HELP or service.

  • How about Alltrax, heard it is epoxy sealed,

  • Haven't tried those. This Curtis was also sealed with goop. I don't suggest that you try the "boil it in water" technique suggested by one of Curtis' competitors with that Alltrax.

  • Very interesting! I paid $1500 for one of those things and it's basically empty! Amazing stuff! :)

  • Actually, its not empty. However, the parts quality and heat-dissipation design, in our opinion, are surprisingly mediocre.

  • have u got the circiut diagrams?

  • do you still have PCB ?

  • pop open a zilla controller and show that in detail instead. the curtis is well known

  • What's so mega complicated about 3 phase? It's 3 half bridges run by a microprocessor.

If you want to see how simple 3 phase can be look at a brushless RC speed controller. I've seen them fro sale as cheap as $20.00!

  • Yup... Only water can get in a Curtis. They win the "how complicated can an op-amp circuit be?" award.

  • WOW a DC controller... Wait till you see a 3phase frequentie controller for 3phase motors.

That is like 1000 times more complicated.

    This is just basic electronics.

  • Any plans to upgrade it to handle more current? I recall some company selling refurbished Curtii capable of 1,000A or more.

  • Nice work. Did you de-pot this, or do you have some inside track at Curtis?

Does this controller work, or was it already a junker?
