Nikki Araguz: The fight of her life.

Mrs Nikki Araguz, widow of Captain Thomas Araguz, a Wharton County Firefighter is in the battle of her life against Thomas's mother, Simona Rodriguez Longoria in court.


Longoria has claimed that since Nikki was born legally male, before transitioning to female, that this invalidates the marriange between the two and that Longoria should receive all benefits and properties. This includes any income earned by Mrs. Araguz during the marriage. Mrs. Araguz was the principle wage earner of the couple.

Longoria has also asked the Courts to take the funds paid for by a life insurance policy in which Nikki was named the beneficiary. Judge Clapp granted this request adding those funds to the widow's benefits and all marital assets currently being held in escrow.

In a victory for Nikki, the Judge also prevented Longoria from spending any of those funds or disposing of Capt. and Mrs. Araguz's marital assets.

Longoria has stated that her goal is to freeze Nikki out.

This is why we (Canada) have true gay marriage, not just a union. Once gay marriage was passed these court cases were invalidated. Sex can no longer be an excuse to invalidate a marriage or related spousal rights.
