"In the Still of the Night" was written by Cole Porter for the MGM film, Rosalie in 1937. Joni James recorded it for her 1956 album of the same name on the M-G-M , arranged and conducted by David Terry. It was released on CD by Tarragon Records in 1995.

The orchestration is by David Terry, whose arranging genius is in full evidence throughout the album "Joni James Sings in the Still of the Night." Joni still has the orchestrations and perhaps one day if we are all lucky she will include this song in her concert repertoire. The vocal here is simply mesmerizing and the strange ending is not a mistake; it's exactly what Joni intended to sing.
