I'd heard that German language numbers stations - once the most common on the airwaves - still existed. I hadn't been searching specifically for this, but caught it by chance. To tell you the truth I could have saved myself some hassle and searched for a schedule, as this broadcast does actually follow a known schedule.

Recording was at 6887 khz USB, 1840 UTC 12/6/08. Note that at 1:36 into the clip I've skipped to the end. The index/group count is '892 892 23 23'. Ending is a slow '00000'

It's an '06' station - i.e. it shares traits with the English Man and the Russian Man, suggesting it comes from the same suspected source (Russian FSB). Note the specialised German phonetic numbers - e.g. 'zwo', 'funnef' and 'noigen'. As far as I can tell the voice is exactly the same as that on the Conet Project back from 1997.

For those who are confused as to what a numbers station is, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station

  • which hardware did you use to receive this transmission?

  • Just the radio you see (Degen DE1103) plus the random wire antenna it was supplied with.

  • When was this recorded and what is the frequency?

  • It's in the video description...

  • This is an old one. I was in West Germany in the mid to late 80s. I (or anyone with a radio) could even hear this one with a regular radio on commercial AM freqs. IIRC, it was East German.

The funny stuff was the propaganda stations that had E.German and Soviets that tried to speak English with US accents, "Yeah, man, I can't wait to get drunk and meet to my girlsfriend." Their incorrect slang gave them away every time.

  • Besides being intriguing, these stations are seriously creepy! I played the Conet Project for friends at Halloween, and everyone was freaking out.

  • I have a playlist I created from 6 clips of an East German Stasi documentary. In clip 1 at about 45 seconds from the beginning you can hear the exact same voice but she gives the code: 52716-69883-406-128-00000

  • feelin so fly like a g6...

  • "Drrrei". If I could get any info on this lady

  • Agent 76466 has been activated. Must kill Trees with C4! xD

  • @DanielChristy19 Yeah, I already did. It's nice to see the machines for real.

  • @hazereyes1 "She"(the machine) is reading numbers that can be deciphered using a one time pad (OTP). It's an undecipherable code that uses books of numbers to decode the transmission. The "spy" receiving the message only needs their OTP and a shortwave radio. The OTPs can sometimes be chewed like gum or they dissolve in water. This has been going on continuously since the Cold War.

  • @wwwtotalitaerde these stations are being operated by nations all over the world... The US has stations that have have been traced by RF direction finding to locations on US soil. The Cubans regularly broadcast these as well. The British have a station that is believed to be operating from Cyprus. The Israelis, Chinese and Russians are known to have these stations too... It's an international mystery.
