A simple waltz I wanted to share. After I wrote it, I played it for my (then) bro-in-law (and great friend) Dave. He said he could see a great video in this song. "I can see the scenerio in my mind!" He died from cancer a few years later to my complete sorrow. Last year, hoping to finally bring a video to fruition, I asked a seasoned sax virtuoso, a new (?) friend of 8 yrs. or so - 84 yrs. old to play the part of the old man in this song, to which he was delighted. His name was Emil Matys (sax, lead vocals) of The Matys Brothers fame (see Matys Bros. on the web! or hear them here - )http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V4EkaCeTas&feature=related)
He passed away two months ago before we could plan the video. He and Dave are sorely missed. This little waltz is dedicated to David Wayne Couture and Emil Matys.
A Saturday night, in a little cafe
A place with a pay phone at the end of the day
He walks through the doorway and it's plain to see
There's no one to talk to but me
He orders a coffee and asks with a smile,
"If you ain't too busy son, could we talk awhile?
I hope it's no bother, but it's plain to see
There's no one to talk to but me."
"I see by your eyes you've been taken.
You'd rather be here than at home.
But it should be love that you're makin'
Instead of some call on the phone."
So after I listen to this old man talk
I offer a ride, but he'd rather walk
He says, "Don't be foolish, if you let love be,
There'll be no one to talk to but losers like me
"I see by your eyes you've been taken.
You'd rather be here than at home.
But it should be love that you're makin'
Instead of some call on the phone."
"I see by your eyes you've been taken.
You'd rather be here than at home.
But it should be love that you're makin'
Instead of some call on the phone.
So pick up your coat, and GO HOME."
Such a lovely song and I'm sorry for the loss of your bro-in-law and friend!!

Can't stop listening to this heartfelt piece of music written from that "Big Ole Heart" of yours. Your dearly departed friends are out there among the stars waltzing with the beautiful angels.
May I have this dance?
Your friend from the old farmhouse...

My reply didn't make it thru. I said I came to listen instead of playing it, saw your touching comment, and cried a bunch anyway. I really like this song, and miss Dave and Emil terribly. I'm still gonna find a way to video this one.
Yes, I'd love to have this dance, I'm a great waltzer, but we have to twirl out in the barn- none of that stand-in-one-spot kinda waltz, it's too graceful a dance not move around!
Thank you again, Donna. You are a wonderful friend.
Yours, Lee
