Down the tunnel - Victoria to Sydenham (South London) en route to Dover via Ashford International. Stranded Eurostar passengers offered a lift. All other services to Ashford suspended due to the snow. Notice the general lack of trains.

White Cliffs Luncheon Express to Dover. 21 Dec 2009. Assisted by a diesel engine while leaving Victoria. Video shows journey as far as Sydenham. Don't miss the scenic views of the tunnel!

60163 Tornado is a main-line steam locomotive built in Darlington, England, the first such locomotive built in the United Kingdom since Evening Star, the last steam locomotive built by British Railways, in 1960. Designed to meet modern safety and certification standards, Tornado runs on the UK rail network and on mainline-connected heritage railways.

  • Goes to show electric and diesel isn't the way forward.. steam lives on forever and ever.!

  • @BristolSpotterHD Forever and ever. Amen.

  • @BristolSpotterHD Forever and ever. Amen.

  • and don't forget: In the unhappy event of a EMP attack from nuclear weapons, NO diesel or electric traction will be working - the ONLY form of transport (apart from horses/bicycles!) will be ------YES! You've guessed it - STEAM !

  • @colliecandle That's a bit pessimistic

  • is this when people was stuck in the tunnel for 13 hours cos i work at ebbsfleet international and i heard a steam train was gonna b used but i thought it was bollocks and went home as all the trains was cancelled

  • @ndse8 Yes that was it. The steam train picked up a few passengers at Ashford because it wasn't full. The idea that a steam engine would haul the Eurostar out of the tunnel was complete fiction.

  • they say these new trains r better but when the weather is bad. steam rains supreme. 5* vid by the way

  • Yes. But only for Steam Dreams and Tornado. Eurostar will not be amused.

I find their shuttle trains very claustrophobic to travel in!

  • @KINGANDCASTLE It's also very true. The question is not IF but WHEN...................I invite you to take a look at the Alex Jones channel here on You tube.

  • @KINGANDCASTLE Seems bonkers if we've built a continental connection and not built it to continental loading gauge standards (bigger than the UKs). But then again, this *is* Britain

  • @landroversrs1 Except it isn't, it is one of very few engines with a welded boiler, not a revetted one.

Joke was, whilst we can make one, we only have safety regulations written for the construction of revetted boilers so they had to get it from Germany.
