  • Nice script. I used to copy all thing to festival console. ubuntuforums t=751169 is broken, else we would get natural sound. Specially Nitech HTS and CMU Arctic. They break with every version.

  • @xpressrazor yep lol festival is buggy

  • Glad you're back!

  • @aphixe darren kitchen has posted a video on hak5 based on this episode check my wtf transistors vid for the link @ the end .... you need to edit 2lines in the config .... im doing a part 2 for this have another neat tts trick up my sleeve hehe :) will get it online asap

  • @hakology wow i just found out on my system i had to kill something called aplay.. i was looking at my cpu cycles in top. and i found it. when i killed it, the tts from festival played about 5 copies at a time.. wow what bug.. I'll try and find a solution. i am on latest 11.10 ubuntu 64bit

  • @hakology i have this issue, and tried your killall psound, it says the process isn't running

  • Works perfect, now i need to fine tune festival.

  • Thank You. I have been looking for a way to select text and have it spoken to me so that i may do something else an maximize my time. You Rock.

  • Where have you lost yourself dude?

  • @hakology Thanks, I was using Ubuntu 11 both .04 and .10 and the same problem but If I convert to wav file there is no limitation so is a bit strange.

Anyway I lost my interest for now I have other priorities :) but thanks for the info.

  • @electrodacus if you pipe the information 99.9% of the time it will read the whole article ... i use it to read my rss feeds ... this problem/bug only occurs only on certain versions of linux ... mainly after ubuntu 9 ... it's reported on the ubuntu bug site ... unfortunately i cant resolve this issue ... if festival hangs or the speech starts slowing down / distorting try :

    killall psound

you might have to run this a few times for it to clear all instances of the tts playback
